NATCEP Train-the-Trainer
Ohio State Career Training Center NATCEP Train-the-Trainer (TTT) program is approved by Ohio Department of Health to train nurses interested in teaching nurse aides. Ohio long-term care codes require that nurses who serve as Program Coordinators (PCs) and Primary Instructors (PIs) for Training and Competency Evaluation Programs (TCEPs) take a state-approved Train the Trainer (TTT) course.
Individuals considering a position of Program Coordinator (PC) in a NATCEP must be an RN with at least two years (3200 hours) of nursing experience, at least one (1600 hours) of which must be employed as an RN in a skilled nursing facility/nursing home. Nursing experience hours must be verified by letterhead statements from current and/or previous nursing home employers.
Individuals considering a position of Primary Instructor (PI) in a NATCEP must be an RN with at least two years (3200 hours) of geriatric or chronic care experience, defined as employment in a long-term care facility, home health agency, hospital providing care to the chronically ill, or other long-term care settings. A Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) must have two years (3200 hours) of nursing experience employed in a skilled nursing facility/nursing home. Nursing experience hours must be verified by letterhead statements from current and/or previous nursing home employers.
Topics for training include: Framework for Training, Training Environment, Course Material Design and Development Process, and learning the Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) rules that pertain to NATCEP and TTT.
In order for a completer's TTT certificate to remain current, he/she must teach in an Ohio NATCEP within a 24-month period and be able to provide verification of that teaching with the program coordinator's signature.
